Virtue of Prudence – No Margin Ned on Moral Margin
The virtue of prudence is the virtue of knowing what is good and making a plan to attain it. Therefore it is closely tied to our moral life.
Moral boundaries are some of the easiest boundaries to erode in today’s culture. Everywhere we are being told not to judge moral behavior. We are told that morals are just a matter of opinion. In such an environment, making excuses for our own sin becomes all the easier. But who will control the kind of people we become? Will we be the masters of our own destiny, or will we let our culture make us weak, self-indulgent, and morally aimless?
This fun video series by Kevin Hanly shows you what happens when you fail to use prudence in your moral life.
Building margin in our moral life means erecting boundaries around our temptations. Catholic moral tradition calls this “avoiding the near occasion of sin.”
