Blogs

A blog (short for weblog) is simply a web journal that is updated with new “posts” or articles on a regular basis. Posts may include text, pictures, audio or even video. Blogs can be very entertaining and enriching. However, they come with one caution. Anyone can write a blog – so be sure to trust your source if you are looking to learn about your faith by reading blogs. I have reviewed some blogs and can direct you to some high quality choices.

Podcasts

Podcasts are audio programs that are recorded to digital files and “broadcast” to podcast readers and websites. They get their name from the iPod, which first made them popular. However, you can listen to podcasts on any MP3 (digital audio) player. You can also listen to them on your computer, but this option is a lot less mobile. Catholic podcasting has really taken off in the past few years, offering some really great listening experiences. Most of these are amateur programs recorded in home studios, but even these often display great talent and knowledge. I am collecting a list of Catholic podcasts that I think you would find most valuable for engaging in your faith.

Forums

Forums are online communication centers where people can discuss various topics. They differ from chats or chat rooms because chats are in “real-time” – both people are communicating at the same time. Forums are more like e-mail. You read what other people wrote, then you leave a response that others will come and read later. Forums are usually moderated to ensure that people behave themselves, but some are more vigorously moderated than others. What really makes or breaks a forum are its members. Some forums are great places to get support from other Catholics, find answers to your questions, and promote your favorite causes or devotions. Other forums can be downright rude. I’ll share my experience with Catholic forums I have tried here.
