Especially in this time of crisis when the Church has been betrayed by many priests and bishops, many faithful Catholics want to show their appreciation for those clergy members and parish leaders who are faithfully serving the Lord and His Church. Especially when a Holy Day comes around, you may want to express your gratitude to your priest or deacon for their hard work, dedication, and service to their flock. But the question always comes up, “what do I get?” Grab an idea from this list and make a simple act of thankfulness easier.

1. Handmade Cards

Gift cards are never a bad idea, even as a token of your appreciation for the type of work your priest or deacon has put in. If you don’t want to hand over a little plastic card, go ahead and make a card to put it in. Include your favorite biblical verse or even a picture of the two of you. Making something simple can add a personal touch that shows you care.

2. Gourmet Gift Basket

Trying to find everyone’s particular taste may be challenging. When you aren’t sure what someone likes, why not check out gourmet gift baskets filled with an assortment of items. If you know, for instance, the youth minister at your parish is a chocolate lover, find a basket that includes samples of various types and flavors. If you aren’t sure, you can go with something like cheese and crackers or an assortment of assorted cookies or cakes. The possibilities are endless.

3. Spiritual Reading

You may have read a book and want to pass it on as a gift. One of the best parts about doing so is being able to personalize a message on the front flap. Something short, simple and meaningful to you. Perhaps a memory about something the clergy member did to get you thinking a different way, or just a kind message of hope. Either way, passing on something you also enjoyed reading is another way to make a clergy member feel special.

Gratitude is an important part of building Christian relationships. Getting someone special a small token of your appreciation can make their day.
