3 Adult Small Group Bible Study Icebreaker Ideas
Bible study is a great opportunity for Catholics to grow in their faith. The more we know Sacred Scripture, the more we grow in intimacy with God. When it’s a social study, it can also be a chance to get to know other Christians, to develop fellowship with like-minded believers, and to build intimate friendships. But it can sometimes be difficult to break the ice and get beyond the academic nature of the study. A great way to start is to have some fun together. Here are some fun activities to warm up both the brain and the relationships in your next Bible study.
Bible Jeopardy
Before the class meets, create a list of Bible answers about 10 characters found in it. For example, “I am an ancient Persian queen who saved the Jews from extermination,” would correctly be answered with the question, “Who is Esther?” In the meeting, split your group members into teams and give each crew a bell. Read your prepared answer and have them ring in when they have determined the question.
Photo Scavenger Hunt
Have everyone pull out their smartphone for a photo scavenger hunt. Call out a category and the first person who finds a matching photo on their phone wins that round and gets to tell the story behind the photo. Create fun categories like a picture of green food, a brown dog, a child under 12 on a bicycle, or someone in a cap and gown.
Find One in Fifty
This is a great activity to get members talking with each other at the very first meeting. Announce each attendee has 50 seconds to find another person with whom they have something in common. Start them out by giving them an unusual first topic, such as a place they have traveled to or someone who has the same number of children as you do. When they are successful, tell them to yell out, “Found one” and search for their next match.
Give one of these activities a try at your next small group meeting to help members socialize with each other.
